On his first solo release “Alienman” released in 2018, Stone Mecca formed a love triangle between roots rock, blues and funk. Now, on his newest self-titled album, Stone Mecca has done this and more combining his love of hard-hitting drums and funk-driven bass lines with grinding guitar riffs and soulful melodies that passionately paint a picture of his life’s journey. Stone Mecca also delivers a live performance that’s even more dramatic and passionate than the recordings.
Easily navigating through an array of musical genres, this multi-instrumentalist has put his stamp on soundtracks for Django Unchained, The Man with the Iron Fist, Friday, Blade: Trinity, Soul Plane, Repo Men, Afro Samurai and Afro Samurai Resurrection. He’s also appeared on albums for such artists as Wu-Tang, RZA as Bobby Digital, Kanye West, and Ice Cube, Westside Connection, and Snoop Dogg. On his 2007 debut album First Contact, which featured the critically acclaimed soul song “A Walk,” OkayPlayer remarked, “In a fair world, music like this would be present all the time on prime time rotation in various radio markets.”
Stone Mecca has performed live with Earth, Wind & Fire, been in the studio with George Clinton, Kanye West, Corinne Bailey Rae, Anderson Paak and many other known entities. Toured with the RZA and the Wu-Tang Clan. Whenever RZA performs solo he often shares stage billing with Stone Mecca and his band. Says RZA, “Stone Mecca gives us a modern day example of what heart and soul music is.”
A self taught musician, Stone Mecca honed his craft by listening to artists like Sly Stone, BB King, Parliament, Al Green, Prince, Jimi Hendrix and Earth, Wind & Fire. “Music is my comfort zone, my vice, my drug of choice. I even named my guitar - I call her Eloise and she’s like my other woman. I love her unconditionally and when I perform, I give her everything I have.”
